Setting Up My Saltwater Aquarium

Recently I decided to give my saltwater aquarium another try.  A few years ago I received one for Christmas and although I loved it, I could not keep it going.  Saltwater fish are an expensive hobby and if you don’t have the money to go all in, its probably best to not get into the hobby.  However, since the aquarium was a gift I was suckered into it.

Many people think all it takes is a tank, stand, lights and some pumps.  The truth is those pieces are the cheap parts.  I have about 400 dollars worth of “live rock” in the aquarium.  You also need to purchase special lights that will cost you about 200 dollars at the minimum.  Of course the main thing that will determine how nice it looks is the quality of water you put into the tank.  Unless you have a whole house water filter you will probably need to purchase a reverse osmosis unit to strip out all of the impurities.  So as you can see after you have the basic pieces of equipment you can easily spend another 500 dollars or more before you even begin to put fish into the aquarium.
