week 9 football food
For whatever reason I woke up early today, which is strange considering how late I went to bed. Since I have a while before football starts and it has been a great weekend (as far as weather goes) I think I’ll fire up the BBQ grill today. I have been craving a good burger for a couple of days now and it looks today will finally be the day. Here is a sure fire way to make great burgers.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground chuck (80% lean)
- Kosher Salt
- Freshly Ground Black Pepper
- Hamburger Buns
- Condiments
Instructions
- Gently shape the meat into 6 patties of equal size and thickness (about 3/4 inch thick)
- Season with salt and pepper
- Grill for 8 to 10 minutes over medium direct heat flipping (only once) midway through
This is about as simple as it gets. You can add more seasonings if you would like but there are two really important things to remember.
- Handle the meat as little as possible. Some people want to dump all sorts of spices into the meat and then work it all together before forming their patties. All this does is wreck the texture of the burger while also providing uneven flavoring. If you are someone that does this STOP NOW!
- Only flip your burger once. If you continuously flip your burger first of all you are showing the world you have no idea what you are doing. Secondly you are squeezing all of the juice out of the burger which will leave you and your guests chewing on something that resembles a hockey puck sandwich.
