Red Velvet Birthday Cake mmm mmm good

I guess my love affair with Red Velvet started the first time I saw Steel Magnolias. At the time I had no idea what a red velvet cake was but I always loved the scene where Shirley McClain (I think) baked a cake in the shape of an Armadillo for the wedding. When they cut into the cake it looked like they cut into an actual armadillo due to the color.

Even though the cake didn’t look very appealing I mean who would want to eat an armadillo but being a young boy I thought it looked pretty darn cool. Ever since that day I tried to find out what that cake was until the early to mid 90’s when the internet got big and I realized I could put it to real use. So one day I decided to look up what type of cake that was and discovered it was red velvet.
